Bill Nye warns against parents teaching Bible principles to our young children. It appears that he has some problems with the same observations I made in a previous post; Scientist vs. Creationist, where nearly half of all Christians believe the Earth is 6000 years old.
Bill Nye needs to realize that the Theory of Evolution is still just a theory. In my last article, I cited a study by the University of Michigan which essentially states E. coli bacteria evolved to a new strain capable of eating citrate in an oxygenated environment. Citrate is normally something E. coli cannot reproduce in the midst of. However, 25 years in the laboratory and 20,000 E. coli generations later, the bacteria were able to accomplish the task of reproduction. This is interesting news, but should not come as a surprise to anyone who believes all living organisms have the ability to adapt.
On the other hand, there is a huge difference between adaptation and evolution. The E. coli strain mentioned above is still E. coli, even after 20,000 generations. We did not witness the E. coli bacteria turn into a blobby tadpole or shark. We did not witness the E. coli suddenly sprout wings or grow eyes. Even after a 20,000 generation span, we've only witnessed E. coli remain E. coli with the ability to adapt to an environment containing citrate. For more information on this experiment see E. coli caught in the act of evolving.
While I agree with Bill Nye stating the Earth being 6000 years old is ludicrous, it seems to me, there is still a glaring hole within the Theory of Evolution. If we did evolve from apes, or all species evolved from essentially the same thing, why are there not anomalies everywhere amongst us?
Humans have wanted to fly for thousands of documented years. In this time we've been outrun by nearly every animal that has the ability to eat us. To this day, man has not sprouted wings to fly away from its predators. It was not until we concocted an airplane with our cognitive resources that we gained this ability.
From my time on Earth, I've never been witness to any baby animal conceived from anything other than what its mother and father created. In my opinion, if evolution exists the way scientists say it exists, everyday we would be witness to thousands upon thousands of species caught in the act of evolving. The fact that this is not the case is just as ludicrous as people stating the Earth is 6000 years old.
